Schools

Dear teachers, if you’re thinking of a school trip, camp, or educational trip suitable for elementary and middle school children, contact us!

Umbria is the ideal region for many reasons: its central location (as the Green Heart of Italy), its small size, the numerous historic and artistic centers within easy reach of each other, the pristine nature, the spiritual figures, the renowned cuisine, the nature of its inhabitants and everything that is appreciated and called the Umbria lifestyle.

We’ve been organizing educational trips for school groups for forty years. The programs and destinations we recommend are well-tested, modular, and varied. You can count on their success and the satisfaction of students and teachers, who can work with us to create the trip that’s best for their children.

The geographical location of Aquilone makes it easy to alternate manual, naturalistic, hiking, and sporting activities with historical, artistic, or environmental education visits, thus allowing for an interdisciplinary approach to your stay.

The atmosphere at Aquilone is family-friendly, warm, and friendly. We also provide evening entertainment with songs, games, shows, and ping pong or table football tournaments. Each group is the only guest on site, allowing for greater flexibility, control, and safety.

With the recognition obtained by the Umbria Region as an “educational farm”, our offerings have been enriched with numerous programs for nursery and primary school classes, divided into one- or multi-day visits.

L’Aquilone offers animal encounters and visits to the farm’s crops, along with explanations, small agricultural workshops (sowing, transplanting, firewood collection, caring for the small animals on the educational farm), cooking activities (baking bread, homemade pasta, preserves, and jams), kite-making, pottery, and searching for animal tracks and plaster casts. Treasure hunts, tournaments, and orienteering games offer an interdisciplinary approach to the stay.

The facility offers plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces for activities and leisure, even in bad weather. The young guests are accommodated in rooms with four/six bunk beds, all with private bathrooms.

For companions, we can reserve some rooms and related services.

School Camps in Umbria, Marche, and Tuscany

Located just a few kilometers from Gubbio—a splendid and well-preserved medieval city—surrounded by woods and meadows, the Aquilone educational farm is a home (as children and young people feel), a school, a playground, and a venue for activities and discoveries. It’s a perfect base for excursions into the surrounding countryside, visits to the region’s historic centers and neighboring Tuscany and Marche, or visits to local artisans’ workshops.

Below you’ll find some ideas and suggestions for visiting our beautiful region, Umbria, as well as for a full-service summer camp. We’ll be at your side thanks to a team of expert operators who have been working with children and teens for many years.

Our long experience with schools, which began in 1980 and has continued uninterrupted to this day, allows us to suggest itineraries and activities to create a tailor-made stay in line with your educational goals.

Stays from 1 to 7 days are available with a wide choice of destinations and programs.

Gubbio, in fact, enjoys a particularly fortunate location that allows easy access to numerous historic and artistic centers spanning the Apennine divide. These include Assisi, Spoleto, Orvieto, Perugia, Todi, Deruta, the Frasassi Caves, Gradara Castle, Lake Trasimeno, San Sepolcro, Fabriano (with its famous Paper Museum), and the Perugina Historical Museum and Factory.

Experiences for educational trips or school camps in Umbria

School Laboratories

There is a wide choice of workshops inside and outside the Aquilone dedicated to education.

On a rotating basis, small groups of school children will be able to try out various activities: gathering and preparing firewood, searching for animal tracks and plaster casts, modeling ceramics, decorating vases and plates, cooking with homemade pasta or “crescia”, building nests and shelters, and sowing and transplanting.

The kite-making workshop is very popular, where every child learns to build their own “travel kite”.

Extremely interesting is the archaeology workshop led by an archaeologist, where you learn some notions and simulate a real excavation.

Other experiences using the gnomons made by the children: they will be able to establish local noon, determine the cardinal points, and study the apparent movement of the sun.

Notions to then put into practice with a fantastic team orienteering game.

Other workshops can be followed externally:

Ceramics Workshop: Guided tour of a modern artisan ceramics workshop, where children can practice decorating and modeling, and then receive the finished objects back at school (after firing).

Perugia Science and Technology Workshop: Visit and scientific activities at the Science and Technology Museum.

The water cycle: visit the Costacciaro museum and the springs of Mount Cucco.

We are all master papermakers: at the Fabriano Paper Museum, everyone will have the opportunity to make their own sheet of watermarked paper, following the ancient traditional technique, and then take it home.

Dinosaurs between natural sciences and paleontology: visit the evocative Bottaccione Gorge, a fascinating way to uncover the secret of the dinosaurs’ disappearance, and the Dinosaurs exhibition in Gubbio, a fascinating display of artifacts and settings, with the opportunity to participate in their workshops.

Environmental education, an educational farm, and green weeks: in a pristine, green environment along the Umbria-Marche Apennines, guided by experts, you can listen to the sap flowing in the trees, test the clarity of stream water, observe tiny organisms, and understand their function as biological indicators.

Evening entertainment, all together around the fireplace: evenings are a magical time, we organize parties, games, shows, discos, slide and audiovisual projections, table football and ping pong tournaments, night outings in the surrounding countryside and stargazing.
